The New TMNT: Shredders Revenge is a call back to a simpler time. While showing that side scroller beat ’em up games are always a wonderful escape from big action open world games. TMNT comes from French developer Dotemu. I last played their Streets of Rage 4 in 2020, one of the best games I’ve played in some time. The art style is spot on and full of colors will still have the grittiness.
Shredders Revenge is a sequel to the Turtles in time (1991) one of the best SNES games. You find yourself in NYC fighting the with classic bosses like Bebop, Rocksteady and Baxter Stockman. It’s a solid romp through the world of TMNT. Moving through the map with the Turtles – Party Wagon is easy and keeps you on track with the story. They have added a lot of features like leveling up massive combios and the ability to play a 6-person match. I can’t even imagine the amount of flashing and damage numbers on the screen.
Another great feature is you can choose other characters like Master Splinter and April O’neil from the start. Once you complete the store mode you unlock Casey Jones, surprisingly this isn’t hidden behind a paywall.
Nicely Done Dotemu.
My only problem with the game is I wish it was longer. The story mode was completed with a team of 3 within 2 and half hours. I didn’t even have time to order Dominos. The other gripe I have is the revive system, it makes the gameplay slow down. I would have rather had a Game Over screen with a try again option.
Overall I had a blast playing this TMNT: Shredders Revenge in Times Square the heart of NYC, in our very own Party Wagon. It’s a buy on steam for $24 and free from xBox Game pass. Tune in every Friday evening when we play LIVE in Times Square from inside our Mobile Gaming Unit.
